‘He has been like a son to me, I don’t have the strength to bear accusations’: Sujatha on Ravi Mohan

Tamil film producer Sujatha Vijayakumar has issued a detailed public statement in response to serious allegations made by actor Ravi Mohan. The allegations, which have surfaced in recent days, suggest misuse of name, reputation, and finances—claims that Sujatha has strongly denied.

Posting her response on Instagram, Sujatha Vijayakumar, who is the mother of Ravi's estranged wife Aarti Ravi, clarified that she has neither exploited the actor’s name nor been a cause of disruption within the family.

“I have worked as a producer for the past 25 years,” she wrote. “Being a woman in this industry for such a length of time requires immense perseverance, something I believe is universally acknowledged. Throughout this journey, I have refrained from public comment—except during my film releases. However, the severity of the recent accusations has compelled me to break my silence.”

Vijayakumar said she had been accused of being a "tormentor," "family breaker," "gold digger," and "property exploiter." She explained that although she initially chose silence out of self-respect and concern for the family’s future, this has now been misconstrued as complicity.

Recalling her early days in the industry, she said her first film, Veerappu (2007), starring Sundar C, had been a profitable venture. She then shifted to television production, before returning to film in 2017—an endeavour she says was encouraged by Ravi Mohan himself. That return led to the production of Adangamaru, which received positive reviews but failed to succeed commercially.

Despite this, she said, Ravi Mohan encouraged her to produce further films starring him, namely Bhoomi and Siren. Across these three projects, she claims to have borrowed nearly ₹100 crore, with approximately 25% allocated to Ravi’s salary and associated taxes—all fully documented.

Addressing allegations that she used Ravi Mohan’s name as surety in financial matters, she stated unequivocally: “I would never misuse his name—not even if he were just an actor, let alone my son-in-law. To protect him, I personally signed numerous documents, including blank ones handed over by financiers, to ensure his name was never implicated.”

She further added that, for over a year, she had made repeated attempts to reach out to Ravi Mohan—not as a producer, but as a mother-in-law and grandmother—hoping to heal the family divide. Her most recent contact, she clarified, was in connection with a professional matter, not an attempt at financial exploitation.

“If I have ever used his signature as surety—even for a single rupee—I urge anyone making that claim to come forward with evidence,” she stated.

Expressing sadness at the personal fallout, she said: “Ravi Mohan has been like a son to me. We’ve admired him and celebrated him as a hero. It pains me to see false allegations tarnish the image he has built. We still want him to be our hero—always.”

She concluded with an emotional appeal to the media: “Please do not label me a tormentor or family breaker. I do not have the strength to endure these accusations at the most difficult time in my life. My only wish is for my daughter and grandchildren to live in a peaceful, united home.”
