‘Someone very close to my heart’: Harisree Martin remembers Kalabhavan Navas

Kochi: Actor and mimicry artist Harisree Martin expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Kalabhavan Navas, stating that he found it hard to believe the news when he first heard it. Recalling their long-standing friendship, Martin described Navas as a talented artist, a dear friend, and like a brother to him.
Speaking to the media, Martin shared, “We have known each other for many years. Navas was not only a talented performer but also someone who was very close to my heart. When he sold his house in Vadakkanchery and decided to move to Aluva, he called me to say he would be living near my house. We attended many shows together.”
Martin also revealed that Navas had recently mentioned his plans to travel to the UK for a show during the upcoming Onam season. “He told me about the program, and I had even wished him well for it,” he added.
Kalabhavan Navas was found dead in a hotel room in Chottanikkara, where he was staying for the shoot of the film Prakambanam. On Friday evening, he informed the crew that he would return to the set on August 4 and retired to his room. He had reportedly told the hotel staff that he would check out by 8 p.m.
When there was no response even after 8:30 p.m., the staff entered the room and found him unconscious. Although he was rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
Navas was the son of veteran theatre and film actor Aboobacker. He made his film debut through Mimics Action 500 and went on to play many roles in Malayalam cinema. He is survived by his wife, Rahna Navas, and children: Nahreen, Ridhwan, and Rihaan. His brother, Niyas Backer, is also an actor.
