‘Handle private issues with restraint’: Madras HC intervenes as tensions between Ravi and Aarti escalate

Chennai: The high-profile marital discord between Tamil actor Ravi Mohan and his wife Aarti Ravi has become a widely discussed topic in Tamil Nadu, with both parties engaging in public exchanges of serious allegations.

Aarti accused Ravi of attempting to evict her from their home, while Ravi countered with claims that Aarti had subjected him to physical and mental harassment and prevented him from seeing their children. In response, Aarti alleged that a third person — singer Kenishaa Francis — was responsible for the breakdown of their marriage, further intensifying the controversy.

Now, the Madras High Court has stepped in to put an end to the ongoing public mudslinging. In response to a petition filed by Ravi Mohan seeking protection from defamatory statements, the court directed both Ravi and Aarti to refrain from making any derogatory public remarks against each other. The directive comes as their divorce proceedings continue.

The parties have been asked to handle their private matters with sensitivity and restraint.

Ravi had approached the court seeking an injunction against Aarti and her mother, Sujatha Vijayakumar, alleging that they were making defamatory statements against him. The legal row escalated following Ravi’s appearance at a wedding with Kenishaa Francis, which sparked rumours of a romantic link between them and reportedly led to tensions between the couple.

Both Ravi and Aarti recently appeared via video conference before a family court in Chennai, where divorce proceedings are underway. Media reports suggest that Ravi expressed his disinterest in continuing the marriage, while Aarti demanded ₹40 lakh per month in alimony — a claim Ravi has opposed. The court has adjourned the case to June 12.

Efforts for mediation failed as neither party participated in the sessions, prompting the authorities to resume formal divorce arguments. Notably, Ravi had previously announced their separation on social media in September last year, a move Aarti later described as unilateral and made without her consent.

The case continues to attract widespread media attention, especially since it involves a leading actor in Tamil cinema.
