Grand finale before political entry: Vijay’s 'Jana Nayagan' morning show ticket rates cross ₹2,000

South Indian superstar Vijay’s latest film, Jana Nayagan, is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, coinciding with Pongal, pre-booking in Bengaluru has already pushed morning show ticket prices up to ₹2,000.
Despite ticket prices ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000, most shows have sold out. Online booking platforms such as BookMyShow show no availability. At Mukund Theatre, where the 6.30 am show is scheduled, ticket prices range between ₹1,800 and ₹2,000.
Other theatres, including Swagat Shankar Nag, Sri Krishna Brind Arjibi, Cinephile HSR Le Out, Gopalan Grand Mall, Vaibhav and Prasanna, have ticket prices above ₹1,000. The minimum morning show price is ₹800. Major cities like Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai currently have no available tickets. In Kochi, the highest ticket price is ₹350.
Reports suggest that bookings in Tamil Nadu have not yet begun. Some online media outlets indicate that the film is awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has suggested a few modifications. Currently, bookings have started in Kerala, Karnataka and select overseas locations.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan also stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol. This film marks Vijay’s final movie before entering politics. The superstar plans to contest in this year’s Tamil Nadu assembly elections under the newly formed Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party.
There are also rumours that the film is a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari, released in 2023, directed by Anil Ravipudi and starring Balakrishna.
