New York: Shah Rukh Khan made history on Monday by becoming the first Indian male actor to attend the prestigious Met Gala, widely regarded as Hollywood’s most significant fashion event.

Ahead of his appearance on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, the Bollywood superstar greeted fans gathered outside the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City. Videos circulating online show the iconic actor warmly interacting with admirers, shaking hands and blowing kisses.

Fashion commentator Diet Sabya also shared footage of Khan exiting his hotel. Dressed in an all-black Sabyasachi ensemble, the actor cut a striking figure in his Met Gala debut. His look was elevated by a dramatic tiger sceptre, echoing a modern-day Maharaja aesthetic.

However, it was the bold 'K' necklace adorning his neck that captured the most attention. The piece served as a playful nod to his well-known nickname, “King Khan”, a title bestowed upon him by fans and media alike. He further accentuated the look with multiple layered gold chains cascading down his chest.

Khan was accompanied by his long-time manager, Pooja Dadlani. As soon as visuals from the evening surfaced, social media platforms like X and Instagram were flooded with praise and admiration. “How cool,” one user commented, while another simply said, “Dapper.”

Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who crafted the custom look, confirmed his collaboration with SRK in a series of Instagram Stories, captioning one image “KING KHAN” and another “KING KHAN BENGAL TIGER” alongside his brand’s emblem — a royal Bengal tiger, symbolising strength and regality.

The look was in perfect sync with this year’s Met Gala theme, ‘Tailoring Black Style’, celebrating the influence and innovation of Black fashion. Sabyasachi himself also attended the Gala.

Other notable Indian attendees at this year’s event included Kiara Advani, Priyanka Chopra, and Isha Ambani, further marking India’s growing presence on the global fashion stage.
