Malayalam film fraternity mourns death of legendary producer Gandhimathi Balan

Condolences messages poured in as the news of Gandhimathi Balan’s death came out. Actor Mohanlal described the cine personality as someone who gifted several classics to the Malayalam film industry.  Mammootty also paid respects to Gandhimathi Balan in his Facebook post.

“My dear Gandhimathi Balan is no more. My brother had gifted several classics including ‘Thoovanathumbikal’ to the Malayalam film industry. The man had put his heart and soul into several films that will be revered forever. His demise is a personal loss and of course is a great loss to the film fraternity. Gandhimathi Balan was a soft natured man filled with love. My hearty condolences,” Mohanlal said in his Facebook post.

Actor Manoj K Jayan penned a condolence note on his Facebook timeline. He hailed Gandhimathi as “the great Malayalam film producer who made cult films including Panchavadi Palam, Thoovanathumbikal, Adaminte Vaariyellu and Sukhamo Devi.”

Gandhimathi Balan who was 66 years old breathed his last in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was known as a producer who always tried to make quality films looking past commercial gains. Moonnam Pakkam, Ithiri Neram Othiri Kaaryam and Ee Thanutha Veluppan Kalathu were a few other famous movies produced under the banner of Gandhimathi films.
