‘Even if I leave this earth, the good films I’ve been part of will remain’: Kalabhavan Navas’ emotional words resurface after sudden death

The sudden demise of Malayalam actor and renowned mimicry artist Kalabhavan Navas has plunged the Malayalam film fraternity and audiences across Kerala into deep sorrow. The 51-year-old artist was found dead in his hotel room while in Chottanikkara for a film shoot, leaving fans and colleagues stunned by the untimely loss.
Navas, known for his contributions to both cinema and stage, had a long-standing presence in Malayalam entertainment, earning affection for his versatile performances and warm persona. As the news of his death spread, an old interview he gave to a YouTube channel resurfaced on social media—his poignant words now resonating even more deeply with grieving fans.
In the interview, Navas had reflected on his career and legacy, saying, “I’ve been continuously doing films. Except for the COVID period, I’ve been part of Gulf stage shows every year. The people who watch those shows are the same ones who go to the cinema. There’s no real difference in the audience. Our wish is to be able to reach viewers wherever they enjoy watching us—whether it’s a stage show or a television programme.”
He went on to express his love for cinema, “Cinema is the priority. It is one of the most important things, because cinema lasts forever. Even if I leave this earth, the good films I was part of will remain. Cinema is what truly matters the most. But even then, it’s not easy, mentally, to abandon everything else just for that.”
Kalabhavan Navas’ heartfelt words now take on a haunting relevance. As tributes pour in from across the state and beyond, his voice—full of humility and dedication—continues to echo in the hearts of Malayalis, reminding them of an artist who lived for his craft and loved his audience deeply.
