In a major achievement, Mohanlal starrer L2 Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has become the first Malayalam film to surpass the ₹250 crore mark at the global box office. The movie, which has captivated audiences with its grand narrative and stunning visuals, reached this monumental milestone in less than 11 days since its release.

The announcement was made by Aashirvad Cinemas through their official social media channels.

"Malayalam cinema breaches the 250 cr barrier for the first time in its history! The Emperor and his General navigating never seen before territory!" the makers wrote in X.

Empuraan, the second part of the 'Lucifer' movie—a trilogy planned by the Prithviraj-Mohanlal team—has become a topic of hot debate over its critique of right-wing politics and the covert mention of the Gujarat riots.

Despite the backlash, 'Empuraan' has achieved remarkable success at the box office. The film, which hit theatres on March 27, became the first Malayalam movie to gross Rs 80 crore worldwide on its opening weekend.
