'The OVERLORD shatters...': Empuraan joins 200 crore club within days of release

In a major achievement, L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal in the lead role, set a new box office record on Monday. Just four days after its release, the much-awaited Malayalam film crossed the Rs 200 crore mark.
The makers took to X to share the news, posting, "The OVERLORD shatters the 200 crore barrier in style! EMPURAAN makes history!"
Empuraan, the second part of the 'Lucifer' movie—a trilogy planned by the Prithviraj-Mohanlal team—has become a topic of hot debate over its critique of right-wing politics and the covert mention of the Gujarat riots.
Despite the backlash, 'Empuraan' has achieved remarkable success at the box office. The film, which hit theatres on March 27, became the first Malayalam movie to gross Rs 80 crore worldwide on its opening weekend.
On Thursday, the day of the movie's release, the Sangh Parivar vehemently criticised the film on social media, while the Congress and Left platforms celebrated the film for portraying right-wing politics as "villainous."
