Vaishnav and Gokul are quite excited about the release of their directorial debut ‘Domestic Dialogues’. The movie is a collective effort of a group of young cinephiles who met at the Kozhikode SN College. The crowdfunded movie released on Thursday on the new Malayalam OTT platform Roots.

Domestic Dialogues talks about the existing discriminations and superstitions inside the society through a single portrayal of a middle-class family. The movie is all about the journey of Anoop, the protagonist from the courtyard of his house to his bedroom. The story develops with the protagonist’s conversation with his relatives. The mask of decency that every proud man wears in public will slowly vanish as he gets into his private space. This transformation and reality are what we want to portray, explained Vaishnav.

“Our movie has many similarities with the popular movie ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ but the fact is that our movie was made about a year and half ago,” he added.

The film received many awards and critical appreciations after release in various film festivals. The movie earned the title of Best Debut Directors at Jharkhand International Film Festival.

“DD was first screened in ‘Kazhcha’ Indie film festival in Thiruvananthapuram. Later, at Jharkhand Film Festival. Then two more screenings were there. We both were the youngest film directors at those film festivals. We were just 19 and 20 at that time” said Gokul.

He also added that going to a film school was beyond their dreams. That thought gave birth to the idea of why not learn filmmaking by doing a film in this advanced digital era. They did two short films ‘Kara’ and ‘iMute’ initially together with their friends. Now, the team is waiting for their second movie ‘Uzhal’ which is in post-production works. Popular cinematographer Prathap Joseph had done the camera for ‘Uzhal’.

The expense for pre and post-production works of Domestic Dialogues has been carried out through crowdfunding. Also, they experimented with the technique of sync sound in the film. Akash, Kavya, Susha, Amith, & Chanduz play the lead roles in the movie.
