‘Only 900 tickets sold on Day 1’: Dismal opening for Dhurandhar in Japan

Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar made its Japanese theatrical debut on July 10, 2026, but the action drama failed to generate the expected response despite an extensive promotional campaign. Trade reports indicate the film attracted only around 900 admissions on its opening day, preventing it from entering Japan's top 25 films for the weekend.
By 2 p.m. on release day, the film had registered 449 admissions across 57 locations. Although screenings later expanded to 80 locations, attendance rose only to about 900, reflecting a subdued opening. The tally also fell short of the 1,300 admissions achieved by Tiger 3, currently the 10th biggest opening for an Indian film in Japan. RRR continues to lead the chart with 8,230 opening-day admissions, ahead of Saaho, Kalki 2898 AD, Pathaan, Salaar, Jawan, Rangasthalam, Devara, Baahubali 2 and Tiger 3.

Globally, however, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has amassed ₹1,813 crore, taking the franchise's combined earnings to ₹3,019.35 crore, making it the first Indian film franchise to cross the ₹3,000-crore milestone. Written and directed by Aditya Dhar, the franchise is produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios and features an ensemble cast led by Ranveer Singh.
