Dhurandhar set to overtake Chhaava, poised to become 2025’s highest-grossing film

Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, continues its strong theatrical run and is now expected to cross the lifetime India net collection of Chhaava, thereby emerging as the highest-grossing film of 2025. The film, which hit theatres on December 5, has shown remarkable consistency as the year draws to a close.

According to trade trackers, Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, currently stands at an India net collection of ₹601.54 crore. Dhurandhar, meanwhile, earned ₹16.5 crore on its 18th day (December 22), taking its total India net collection to approximately ₹572.25 crore.

With no major competing releases in the same genre, trade observers believe the film will comfortably cross Chhaava’s domestic numbers in the coming days.

Trade analyst confirms Dhurandhar’s dominance

In an interaction with NDTV, trade analyst Taran Adarsh said the box office outcome was now inevitable.

“Dhurandhar will cross Chhaava. If you take the overseas collection as well, then it has already surpassed Chhaava. Dhurandhar can be called the highest-grossing film of 2025,” he said.

The film’s performance has also benefited from a relatively quiet release calendar. The only notable release this week is Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which caters to a different audience segment and is not expected to significantly impact Dhurandhar’s box office momentum.

Strong run and sequel announcement

Beyond its box office success, the makers of Dhurandhar have also confirmed that a sequel is in development. The follow-up film is slated for release on March 19 next year, signalling confidence in the franchise’s long-term commercial appeal.

As Dhurandhar closes in on the ₹600-crore mark domestically and continues to perform strongly overseas, its ascent to the top of the 2025 box office rankings now appears all but certain.
