‘Coolie’ movie review: Netizens hail Rajinikanth starrer a ‘complete Thalaivarism’; lauds Anirudh’s musical

Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ is not only the most anticipated Indian release of the year but also one of the biggest cinematic events in recent times. The film has already rewritten pre-release records, with advance ticket sales in India surpassing ₹41 crore for opening day alone, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the high-octane action drama boasts a star-studded ensemble featuring Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and Upendra. The collaboration marks the first time Kanagaraj has teamed up with Rajinikanth, a factor that has amplified the buzz.
Industry watchers expect ‘Coolie’ to dominate box offices despite competing head-on with ‘War 2’, which releases the same day, August 14.
Udhayanidhi Stalin’s first review
Actor and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin got an early glimpse of the film at a special screening. Sharing his thoughts on X, he began by acknowledging the superstar’s career milestone: “I am truly delighted to congratulate our Superstar @rajinikanth sir on completing 50 glorious years in the film industry.”
Calling the movie a “mass entertainer,” Stalin added, “Had the opportunity to get an early glimpse of his much-awaited movie #Coolie, releasing tomorrow. I thoroughly enjoyed this power-packed mass entertainer and am sure it will capture the hearts of audiences everywhere.”

Rajinikanth plays Deva, with Nagarjuna portraying the antagonist Simon. Aamir Khan makes an extended cameo as Dahaa. The film is produced by Sun Pictures with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
