Box office report: ‘Indian 2’ fails to impress audience, ‘Longlegs’ soars above expectations

The box office witnessed an exciting weekend with several highly anticipated releases hitting the screens. From blockbuster sequels to fresh original content, moviegoers had a plethora of options to choose from. As audiences flocked to theaters, the latest numbers offer insights into the evolving trends and successes of the current film offerings.

According to Sacnilk, ‘Indian 2’ (released on July 12), directed by S. Shankar, collected Rs 25.6 crore on the first day. Over the weekend, the India net collection stood at Rs 59.92 crore, while the worldwide total was Rs 109.15 crore. The movie collected Rs 18.2 crore on the second day, Rs 15.35 crore on the third day, and Rs 77 lakh on the fourth day in India. 

In the film, Senapathy is an ex-freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption. Senapathy returns to the country to aid a young man who has been exposing corrupt politicians in the country through videos on the internet. Kamal Haasan reprises his role as the title character, leading an ensemble cast including Siddharth, S. J. Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, and several others.

Directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, 'Sarfira’, released on July 12, garnered Rs 2.5 crore on its opening day in India. Over the weekend, this Bollywood film’s collection reached Rs 19 crore worldwide. It collected Rs 4.25 crore on the second day, Rs 5.25 crore on the third, and Rs 2 lakh on the fourth day.

Sarfira tells the tale of Vir Jagannath Mhatre, a young man from a modest village in Maharashtra. His ambition is to launch a budget airline, aiming to break down economic and social barriers. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Radhika Madan in lead roles.

‘Longlegs’, directed by Osgood Perkins, is a 2024 American horror thriller released on July 12. , garnered Rs 180 crore on its opening day worldwide. It collected Rs 92 lakh in India.

The film follows an FBI agent tasked with tracking down an occultist serial killer, with whom she realizes she has a personal connection. It stars Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage in lead roles along with Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee, and Dakota Daulby in supporting roles.
