Ananya Panday has secured interim relief from the Bombay High Court in her plea seeking protection of her personality rights. The court has directed the removal of objectionable content that allegedly violates the actress's right to privacy, including AI-generated images and videos circulated without her consent.

Over the past few years, several celebrities have approached courts seeking legal protection against the unauthorised use of their names, photographs, voices and other identifiable attributes. Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Nagarjuna, Arijit Singh and Kumar Sanu are among those who have sought such protection.

Ananya has now joined the list, alleging that multiple businesses were using her photographs and AI-generated content to advertise and promote their products without obtaining her permission.

According to Live Law India, the Bombay High Court passed an ad-interim order directing the takedown of content that allegedly infringes upon Ananya's personality and privacy rights.

Justice Madhav Jamdar, while considering the actress's plea, observed that the material appeared to violate her rights to privacy, publicity and moral protection, along with her right to live with dignity.

The relief comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create and circulate manipulated celebrity images and videos. Delhi High Court Grants Kriti Sanon Partial Relief Against Deepfakes

Ananya's case comes shortly after the Delhi High Court granted actor Kriti Sanon partial interim protection against sexually explicit deepfakes, manipulated photographs, fake social media accounts impersonating her and AI chatbots posing as the actress.

However, the court did not impose a blanket restriction on the use of her personality. It clarified that personality rights cannot be treated as one broad, unified legal claim.

In its October 29, 2026 order, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav limited the protection to specified URLs and categories of content. Social media platforms were directed to remove the links identified in the proceedings, while authorities were instructed to block certain websites.

Other defendants were restrained from circulating fake or sexually explicit material involving the actress. The platforms were also given three weeks to provide relevant user details and IP records.

Importantly, the court clarified that the directions would not extend to legitimate news reporting, reviews, criticism, satire, parody or fan-created content.
