She was just a timepass...': The betrayal that shattered Rekha who was once associated with Amitabh

When it comes to the most beautiful actresses in Indian cinema, Rekha’s name continues to shine at the top. From her early days as a leading lady, she captured the hearts of millions and remains an icon of grace and allure. Even today, younger generations of actors and fans admire her — many once dreamt of marrying the actress known for her enigmatic charm.

However, few know that before Amitabh, Rekha had fallen deeply in love with another Bollywood star.

According to 'Rekha: The Untold Story,' a biography by journalist Yasser Usman, Rekha was once in a serious relationship with actor Jeetendra. Their bond grew stronger during the filming of 'Ek Bechara,' but it ended abruptly. On the set, Rekha overheard Jeetendra telling a junior artist that she was merely a “timepass” for him — a remark that devastated her. The actress reportedly locked herself in the make-up room and cried for hours. Following the incident, she ended the relationship.

Rekha and Jeetendra had appeared together in more than 30 films, becoming one of Bollywood’s most beloved on-screen pairs. Yet, the betrayal cut deep, and she chose to move on.

Soon after, Rekha found love again — this time outside the film industry. She married Delhi-based businessman Mukesh Aggarwal in March 1990. But their marriage lasted only six months. By the seventh month, Mukesh died by suicide. 

Following Mukesh’s tragic death, Rekha is said to have pursued other relationships, though none of them lasted long. Still, it’s her connection with Amitabh Bachchan that remains the most storied. The pair starred together in several films, and their reported closeness drew significant media attention. However, Amitabh was already married to actress Jaya Bachchan and had two children. According to reports, Jaya’s unwavering stance to not let go of her husband ultimately brought an end to that chapter.
