Birthday gift for Mahesh Babu fans: Rajamouli sets date for ‘never-before-seen SSMB29’ reveal

Hyderabad: 'SSMB29', the upcoming magnum opus by ace director S S Rajamouli starring Mahesh Babu, will feature a “never-before-seen” reveal in November 2025 to capture its vast story, depth and immersive world, the filmmaker announced on Saturday.

On the occasion of Mahesh Babu’s birthday, Rajamouli took to his X timeline to address cinema lovers in India and abroad, as well as the actor’s fans. “It has been a while since we began shooting, and we appreciate your eagerness to know about the film,” he wrote. “However, the story and scope of this film are so vast that I feel mere pictures or press conferences cannot do it justice. We are currently working on something to showcase the essence, depth and immersive world we are creating. This will be unveiled in November 2025, and we are trying to make it a never-before-seen reveal. Thank you all for your patience.”

The big-budget action-adventure, with elements of history and mythology, has been shot partly in Odisha and features Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran alongside Mahesh Babu. It is expected to release in 2027.

The film has also been in the news for other reasons. Mahesh Babu is performing all his stunts without the use of a body double, according to industry buzz. In this project, Rajamouli has opted for a new cinematographer instead of his long-time collaborator K K Senthil Kumar, who worked on several of the director’s blockbusters, including 'Magadheera', 'Baahubali: The Beginning' and 'RRR'.
