‘If I get to beat you up, I’ll gladly be the villain’: Tovino teases Basil as director turns producer

Actor and director Basil Joseph has officially ventured into film production with the launch of his own production company, Basil Joseph Entertainments. The filmmaker made the announcement on Instagram recently, sharing a title graphics video of the new banner—complete with his signature laugh in the background.
“So, here we go again. Trying something I have never done before - producing films. Still figuring out the “how,” but what I do know is I want to tell stories better, bolder, and in new ways. Let’s see where this new road takes us. Welcome to Basil Joseph Entertainment,” Basil wrote in his caption.
The post immediately caught the attention of colleagues and fans, with actor Tovino Thomas leading the charge with a humorous reply:
"Congratulations. So, what's the plan? The first production, I'm the hero, right?"
Basil responded in kind:
"In the first film, I'll be the hero. I can make you the villain if you want."
To which Tovino playfully shot back:
"Is it an action movie? If I get to beat you up, I’ll gladly be the villain."
Actor and screenwriter Siju Sunny chimed in with a cheeky comment:
"Brother, couldn't you have given this money to the poor?"
Meanwhile, actress Nikhila Vimal commented on the title video’s background audio:
"That laugh."
Several celebrities and industry peers—including Ranveer Singh, Antony Varghese (Pepe), Gauthami Nair, and directors Nahas Hidayath, Dijo Jose Antony, and Jithin Lal—also extended their wishes to Basil in the comments.
Details about the production house’s debut film are still under wraps.
Basil Joseph began his film career as an assistant director before making a name for himself as both a director and actor in Malayalam cinema.
He has directed hits like Kunjiramayanam, Godha, and the superhero blockbuster Minnal Murali. He was last seen in a lead role in Maranamass and recently made a guest appearance in Sathyan Anthikad’s Hridayapoorvam, starring Mohanlal.
