Asif Ali's ‘Rekhachithram’ becomes box office hit, collects Rs 28 crore in 4 days

Asif Ali kicks off 2025 with a bang, continuing his impressive streak from 2024. His first release of the year, Rekhachithram, hit theaters on January 9, and within just four days, the film has collected a whopping Rs 28.3 crore at the global box office.

The mystery crime drama which belongs to the alternate history sub-genre, a rarity in Malayalam cinema, has become a major hit and is already being celebrated as the first blockbuster of the year.

'Rekhachithram' breaks new ground in Malayalam Cinema

Directed by Jofin T Chacko, best known for The Priest, Rekhachithram offers viewers something new, blending elements of mystery and crime in a way Malayalam cinema has rarely seen before. The film quickly gained positive word-of-mouth after its opening day, helping it maintain strong box office collections. This success marks the highest box office opening of Asif Ali's career.

Star-studded cast

Alongside Asif Ali, the film stars Anaswara Rajan in the female lead role. The supporting cast includes prominent names such as Manoj K Jayan, Indrans, Harisree Ashokan, Bhama Arun, Siddique, Jagadish, and many others, all contributing to the film’s success. Rekhachithram has also received critical acclaim for its cinematography by Appu Prabhakar and the musical score by Mujeeb Majeed.
