Shocking millions of music lovers, singer Arijit Singh has announced his retirement from playback singing, leaving fans emotional and heartbroken across social media. The award-winning vocalist shared the news on Instagram, thanking listeners for years of love while confirming he will no longer take up new playback assignments.

“Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners,” Arijit wrote. “ I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”

The announcement triggered an emotional outpouring online. One fan quoted lyrics from his iconic song, writing, “Acha chalta hoon, duaaon mein yaad rakhna.” Another commented, “This is heartbreaking.”

Clarifying his decision, Arijit assured fans that he is not quitting music altogether. He said he will complete his pending playback projects, some of which may release later this year.

“GOD has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and, in the future, will be learning more and doing more on my own as a small little artist. Thanks again for all your support," he further shared in a tweet on his private account.
