Kochi: Director Anurag Kashyap, known for his distinctive style in Indian cinema, is reportedly set to make his directorial debut in Malayalam films, with actor Asif Ali expected to play the lead role. The news surfaced through social media handles, including Cine Loco, sparking excitement among fans.

While reports have generated anticipation, neither Anurag Kashyap nor Asif Ali has officially confirmed the project. Fans believe that collaborating with a filmmaker of Anurag’s stature could be a turning point in Asif Ali’s career.

Asif Ali’s current film 'TikiTaka', directed by Rohit VS and starring Wamiqa Gabbi and Nelson, was originally slated for a Christmas release but has since been postponed. The actor was recently recognised with a special jury mention for best acting at the 55th Kerala Film Awards.

Anurag Kashyap has been active in South Indian cinema in recent years and previously made his Malayalam debut as a producer with 'Rifle Club', directed by Aashiq Abu in 2024. Reports suggest that his next venture will see him directly helm a Malayalam film, marking a new chapter in his filmmaking journey.

Starting his career as an assistant screenwriter on Ram Gopal Varma’s 'Satya' (1998), Anurag rose to international prominence with the 2012 cult classic 'Gangs of Wasseypur', released in two parts.
