Excitement soars as Allu Arjun's 'Happy' gears up for 4K re-release

The early career triumph of South Indian actor Allu Arjun is poised to make a dramatic return to cinemas this month, capitalizing on his enduring, decades-long popularity in Kerala.
The romantic-comedy Happy, which originally took the box office by storm two decades ago, is scheduled for a grand theatrical re-release on June 12. Directed by A. Karunakaran, the film holds a legendary status in local distribution circles, having enjoyed an extraordinary run of over 150 days in Kerala cinemas during its initial 2006 outing—a rare feat for a non-Malayalam production.

The upcoming cinematic run will feature the beloved Malayalam-dubbed version of the film. To appeal to modern theatregoers, the picture has undergone a comprehensive digital overhaul, boasting a pristine 4K Ultra Impact restoration. The re-release is spearheaded by distributor Khader Hassan under the Redakh Arts banner, who acquired the theatrical rights from the original producers, Geetha Arts.
The film follows the chaotic love story of Bunny (Allu Arjun) and Madhumati (Genelia D’Souza), who find themselves forced into a marriage of convenience. Acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee also stars in a pivotal role as a strict police official. Beyond its performances and high-energy dance sequences, the film is fondly remembered for its stellar musical score composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, which remains heavily spun on local radio stations to this day.
Fan clubs across the state are reportedly organising massive celebrations to welcome back the actor they affectionately dub "Mallu Arjun."
