‘Bhooth Bangla’ collection day 24: Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy nears Rs 250 crore worldwide

# Entertainment Desk

Akshay Kumar’s latest collaboration with director Priyadarshan continues to hold firm at the box office as ‘Bhooth Bangla’ maintained a steady run during its fourth weekend in cinemas. The fantasy horror-comedy added another Rs 4.10 crore net on its fourth Sunday, pushing the film closer to the coveted Rs 250 crore mark worldwide.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film’s India net collection has now reached Rs 158.85 crore, while the domestic gross stands at Rs 188.51 crore. Overseas, the film has minted Rs 53.10 crore, taking its worldwide gross total to Rs 241.61 crore. The strong theatrical performance comes as a significant boost for Akshay Kumar, whose recent releases had struggled to sustain momentum at the box office.

Bhooth Bangla holds ground amid fresh competition

Despite facing competition from newly released films such as ‘Raja Shivaji’ and ‘Krishnavataram Part 1 – Hridhyam’, ‘Bhooth Bangla’ has managed to retain a strong presence, particularly in the Hindi market.

Riteish Deshmukh’s historical drama ‘Raja Shivaji’, released in Hindi and Marathi, reportedly collected Rs 6.80 crore on its second Sunday. However, trade figures suggest that the Marathi version contributed the bulk of the earnings, while the Hindi version generated a comparatively smaller share. This has allowed ‘Bhooth Bangla’ to continue leading in the Hindi belt.

While ‘Raja Shivaji’ has emerged as one of the highest-grossing Marathi films, industry observers believe sustaining a long theatrical run could prove challenging amid growing competition and fresh releases.

When will ‘Bhooth Bangla’ release on OTT?

Reports suggest that ‘Bhooth Bangla’ is likely to arrive on Netflix following the completion of its theatrical journey. Though the makers have not officially announced a streaming date, the film is expected to premiere on the platform sometime between late June and early July 2026.

‘Bhooth Bangla’ plot

The film centres on Arjun Acharya, a man in his late thirties who inherits his ancestral mansion, Acharya Niwas, located in the fictional North Indian town of Mangalpur. The property is infamous for tales of an old curse and paranormal activity.

Ignoring repeated warnings and dismissing the rumours as superstition, Arjun decides to host his sister Meera’s wedding at the mansion. However, as preparations begin, a series of unexplained incidents disrupt the celebrations, forcing him to confront the possibility that the haunting may be real. The story then follows his attempt to uncover the truth behind the sinister force surrounding the estate.

Ensemble cast

Alongside Akshay Kumar, the film features performances from Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jisshu Sengupta, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Mithila Palkar, Asrani, Rajesh Sharma and Manoj Joshi.

Is there a part 2 for ‘Bhooth Bangla’

According to an India Today report, the makers are also considering a sequel to ‘Bhooth Bangla’, although no official announcement has been made so far.

Producer Ektaa Kapoor is reportedly keen on revisiting the horror-comedy space with additional stories, although the project is said to still be in the early stages of development.
