Aditya Roy Kapur's next is an intense musical romance; why everyone is comparing it to ‘Aashiqui 2’?

Aditya Roy Kapur is set to return to the romance genre with a new film that promises a darker, more intense take on love. The actor has officially signed on to star in filmmaker Milap Milan Zaveri's next project, an untitled musical romance.

Backed by T-Series' Bhushan Kumar, the film has been described as an "intense, violent, and deeply emotional musical love story." Principal photography is expected to begin later this year, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.

The project marks another collaboration between Aditya Roy Kapur and Bhushan Kumar, a partnership that has previously delivered successful films such as ‘Aashiqui 2’, ‘Malang’, ‘Ludo’, and ‘Metro… In Dino’.

Speaking about casting Aditya, director Milap Milan Zaveri said, "Aditya has always had an amazing ability to portray love with power and emotional depth. Ever since Aashiqui 2, audiences have connected with him in stories driven by passion and heartbreak."

"This character is heroic, intense, aggressive, and many notches above the madness of my film ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’. I couldn't think of anyone better than Adi to bring this character to life," the filmmaker added.

Producer Bhushan Kumar echoed similar sentiments, recalling his long-standing creative association with the actor. "Our association with Aditya goes back many years and has given us films that audiences continue to love. From ‘Aashiqui 2’ to ‘Metro… In Dino’, every collaboration has been special in its own way. We share a great creative comfort, and I'm happy we're coming together once again for a story that's intense, emotional, and mounted on a grand scale," he said.

Ever since the announcement, fans have been asking the same question: Is this going to be another ‘Aashiqui 2’? While the makers have not positioned it as a spiritual successor, Aditya Roy Kapur's return to a music-led romantic drama has naturally drawn comparisons with the 2013 blockbuster that made him a household name.

However they have not revealed the title, cast, or composer yet, except that the soundtrack will be one of the film's defining elements.
