Actor Baiju tenders public apology in connection with drunk driving accident

Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Baiju apologised for a car accident caused while driving allegedly under alcohol influence at high speed. Baiju tendered an apology to the public via a video message on social media. He stated that he is obligated to follow the law like everyone else, and he has no special privileges. He clarified that the woman who was with him at the time of the accident was his aunt’s granddaughter.
The accident occurred at the Vellayambalam junction late on Sunday night. The vehicle first collided with a signal post before hitting another post, eventually coming to a stop. The injured scooter rider was taken to Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital for treatment. Although Baiju arrived for medical examination in the case, he allegedly refused to provide a blood sample. Medical staff noted the smell of alcohol and informed the police of his non-compliance with testing. The Museum police have registered a case against him for reckless driving under the influence of alcohol. As the injured party has not yet filed a formal complaint, the police initiated the case suo motu.
Baiju’s FB post:
"There have been several understandings and misunderstandings circulating on social media regarding the accident that occurred on Sunday. It is my responsibility to clarify what really happened. On Sunday, I was driving from the Kowdiar area towards Vellayambalam, likely at a speed of 65 km/h. The plan was to head towards the Museum area from Vellayambalam.
"However, when I reached Vellayambalam, the car's tyre punctured and the vehicle went out of control. The car did not turn and that's how I ended up hitting the scooter rider. I immediately helped him stand up and asked if he needed to go to hospital. He said there was no need and was not hurt. There were no fractures or injuries. He also said he had no complaints. He was the one who reported the incident to the police. The police did not assist me in any way; they acted according to the law and filed a case as a mistake had been committed.
"There are also claims on social media that I was intoxicated. Such things will naturally be. If there's any visible dirt or damage, people will make assumptions. That’s how it has come to this point. Another rumour circulating was that a girl was with me at the time, but it was actually my aunt’s granddaughter. I also had a friend from the UK along with me. If any of my words or actions appeared arrogant, I sincerely apologise. I hope those who care for me will understand."
