Yesteryear actor Baby Girija dies at 83 in Chennai

Chennai: Renowned actor Baby Girija passed away. She was 83 years old. The actor breathed her last on Saturday at her residence in Anna Nagar, Chennai. 

Girija earned fame in Malayalam through the movie ‘Jeevitha Nouka’.

The movie was released in 1951. In the K Vembu directorial, Baby Girija (P P Girija) enacted the childhood portions of the female leaf essayed by B S Saroja. In the years that followed, Baby Girija went on to star in several Malayalam films including ‘Achan’, ‘Vishappinde Vili’, ‘Premalekha’, ‘Avan Varunnu’ and ‘Puthra Dharmam’. 

Girija was daughter of Kannur natives Ananthan and Sunitha. The family had shifted to Alappuzha as part of Ananthan’s job. His connections there made way for Girija to cinema. 

The yesteryear actor was an expert dancer as well. In the later stage of her life, she quit acting and took up a job at the Indian Overseas Bank in Chennai. Her husband had died earlier. The couple did not have any children. 

Girija’s cremation will be held in Chennai on Sunday.
