Aashiq Abu accuses government of cardinal negligence over Hema Committee Report

Kochi: Director and left sympathiser Aashiq Abu has criticised the government for its handling of the Hema Committee report, accusing them of criminal negligence. Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, he questioned why the Left government has remained silent despite evidence of injustice highlighted in the report.
Aashiq Abu expressed confusion over several aspects of the Hema Committee report, especially the lack of transparency and the failure to release part of the report as promised. The government is facing pressure from all sides regarding the Hema Committee report, with officials appearing to yield to this pressure. Aashiq questioned the government's claim of having nothing to hide, asking, "If that’s the case, then who is concealing the information?"
"Who on the government side reviewed the report that included details of sexual assault? Were they not convinced it was a criminal offence? The government could have taken the matter to court," He questioned whether there are people in the government who lack the legal expertise to handle technicalities.
Despite having capable ministers, Ashiq Abu criticised the government for not intervening and instead remaining passive, which he considered as serious negligence. He argued that the Left government should have acted differently if it believed an injustice had occurred.
He also suggested that if the chief minister or relevant ministers had held a press conference upon reading the report, the situation might have been different. He also said that even if the government had lost in court, it could have been proud of taking a stand. He added that the government will need to answer to the public for its handling of the matter and that powerful groups have managed to undermine even a government with a strong will.
