Game of Thrones fans, rejoice! ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ finally gets India release date

HBO has officially unveiled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a new fantasy drama set in the Game of Thrones universe.
The series, based on George R R Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, will premiere in India on 19 January 2026 via JioHotstar, a day after its global release on HBO Max.
The six-episode first season follows the adventures of Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall (played by Peter Claffey) and his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), set around 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The series captures their journeys across Westeros as they face tournaments, duels, and challenges that shape the early Targaryen legacy.
The teaser trailer gives fans a glimpse of knightly battles, political intrigue, and moments of light-hearted camaraderie, hinting at a more grounded tone than Game of Thrones. In one key sequence, Dunk is mistaken for Baelor Targaryen (played by Bertie Carvel), setting off a major tournament inspired by Martin’s first novella The Hedge Knight.
Unlike its predecessor’s large-scale wars, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms promises a more personal narrative — focusing on courage, friendship, and honour within a still-divided Westeros. The show’s cast includes Finn Bennett, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Ross Anderson, Sam Spruell, Youssef Kerkour, and Steve Wall, among others.
The events of the show occur about 72 years after House of the Dragon, marking the first time two Game of Thrones prequels will air in the same year, with House of the Dragon Season 3 also scheduled for 2026.
