79th Cannes Film Festival confirms dates: Know details here

Mumbai: The 79th Cannes Film Festival will be held between May 12–23, 2026. The festival took to its official Instagram handle to confirm the dates. However, the date for the market, which ran this year from May 13-21, alongside the festival (May 13-24), has not been announced yet.
The official Instagram handle of the Cannes Film Festival announced the dates on Wednesday evening. The caption read: "We already know the dates for #Cannes2026. SAVE THE DATE: the Festival de Cannes will be back for its 79th edition from May 12 to 23, 2026!"
Bollywood presence in Cannes 2025: India had a significant presence in the 2025 Cannes Film Festival- both in terms of the movies that were screened and the stars who flew to attend the event.. ‘Homebound’ by Neeraj Ghaywan, ‘Tanvi the Great’ by Anupam Kher, and ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’, a restored classic by Satyajit Ray, were all on the festival's schedule.
Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Ishaan Khatter also made an extravagant appearance on the red carpet, bringing global attention to Indian movies.
Iranian film director and screenwriter Jafar Panahi’s ‘It Was Just An Accident’ bagged the Palme d’Or at the 78th edition last month and also topped Screen’s Cannes jury grid as the joint winner alongside Sergei Loznitsa’s ‘Two Prosecutors’.
About the festival: The Cannes Film Festival is held in Cannes, France, and features international premieres of new films in a variety of genres, including documentaries. The invitation-only event was established in 1946 and takes place at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès every year, generally in May.
In 1951, the FIAPF granted the event official accreditation. Along with Venice, Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance, Cannes is one of the "Big Three" major European film festivals. It is also one of the "Big Five" major worldwide film festivals. Film industry and press members, and a select group of ardent film students and cinephiles, are the main attendees of the Cannes Film Festival.
