Spice Girls reunion? Cryptic post sparks fresh rumours ahead of 30th anniversary

Thirty years after the Spice Girls burst onto the global pop scene, the group has once again sent fans into a frenzy with a mysterious message that appears to hint at something being planned for the band’s anniversary. 

The group posted a video across its social media platforms featuring a newspaper advertisement placed on the steps of London’s St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, the same location made famous by the Spice Girls in the music video for their breakthrough 1996 single ‘Wannabe’. The post carries a single date and time: “10.09.2026 | 2pm BST.”

The advert is particularly intriguing because it echoes the wording and format of the ‘The Stage’ notice that helped bring the original group together in 1994. Rather than revealing what is planned, the new message appears to invite Spice Girls fans who can sing and dance, while also calling on collectors and music enthusiasts.

The cryptic announcement has immediately fuelled speculation that the five members could be preparing a special project, performance or reunion to mark three decades since their debut.

What does the mysterious advert say?

The newspaper notice reads:

“R U a Spice Girls fan with the ability to sing and dance? R U a superfan, a collector, a music lover?

"Spice Girls are a widely successful, global, choreographed, singing/dancing all female pop act with a record nine number ones in the UK and over 100 million global sales.

"Thursday 10th September at 2 o’clock BST. No sheet music required. But you will need a vinyl or CD player."

The group has not provided any explanation about what the announcement means or why fans will need a vinyl or CD player. The deliberate reference to the band’s origins, however, has added to the mystery.

The advert's appearance on the Wannabe steps is another clear nod to the group's history. The 1996 song was the Spice Girls' debut single and became the track that introduced Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell-Horner to audiences around the world.

The Spice Girls are marking 30 years since the release of ‘Spice’, their hugely successful debut album. The record went on to sell more than 23 million copies globally and remains the best-selling album by a female group.

Their rise in the mid-1990s was marked by a string of major hits, including ‘Stop’, ‘2 Become 1’, ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ and ‘Viva Forever’. The group scored nine UK No. 1 singles and two chart-topping albums during its original run, while its message of “girl power” became a defining part of 1990s pop culture.

Halliwell-Horner left the group in 1998, citing “differences between us”. The remaining four members continued for a period before the Spice Girls went on an indefinite hiatus in December 2000.

The reunion speculation returns

The possibility of the group coming together again has been a recurring topic among fans, particularly as the 30th anniversary approached.

The Spice Girls reunited as a five-piece for the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. Seven years later, Brown, Bunton, Halliwell-Horner and Chisholm returned to the stage for the 2019 ‘Spice World tour’, which travelled across the UK and Ireland. Beckham did not take part in that tour and has not performed with the group since the Olympics.

Beckham has previously indicated that she does not want to return to performing with the Spice Girls, saying she came to realise that she “didn’t belong on stage”. Her absence has remained one of the biggest obstacles to hopes of a full five-member reunion.

Still, speculation intensified in April 2024 when footage emerged of all five women singing Stop together at Beckham’s 50th birthday celebration.

What the Spice Girls have said about a 30th anniversary return

The members have also kept the possibility of an anniversary celebration alive through their own comments.

Earlier this year, Brown spoke about the prospect of the group doing something to commemorate the milestone, although she stressed that nothing had been finalised.

She said: “It’s our 30th anniversary, I do think we should be doing something. Whether that actually happens or not is another story, but we’re all talking about it because if not anything, just for our fans. They’ve been so loyal and they’re just there all the time – even now 30 years on.

“For that we should be doing something, but I can’t say what that is right now, because nothing has been confirmed or signed off on.”

Halliwell-Horner also added to the anticipation in 2025 when she told The Sunday Times that “there will be something” involving all five members for the anniversary.

That comment, combined with Brown's earlier remarks and now the mysterious advert, has given fans fresh reason to believe that the Spice Girls may finally have something significant in store.
