With Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh set to perform in Delhi on October 30, the Delhi Traffic Police have announced extensive traffic restrictions, diversions and travel arrangements around Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium on Lodhi Road. The measures are aimed at managing the expected rush of concert-goers and preventing congestion on major roads near the venue.

According to the advisory, traffic regulations will be enforced from 1 pm to midnight, with several roads around the stadium expected to witness heavy traffic and restricted vehicle movement. Authorities have urged motorists to avoid affected routes, use alternative roads and allow additional travel time.

The police have also encouraged those attending the concert to use Delhi Metro services instead of private vehicles, with designated pick-up and drop-off locations arranged near the stadium.

Diljit Dosanjh Delhi concert: Roads likely to be affected

The traffic advisory identifies several major roads and surrounding areas where vehicular movement may be disrupted during the concert.

These include Bhishm Pitamah Marg, Lodhi Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Arch Bishop Marg, 4th Avenue Road, 5th Avenue Road, the CGO Complex area and roads within the JLN Stadium premises.

Restrictions and changes to traffic movement will also affect the Barapullah Flyover, the INA-Jangpura Metro Station stretch, Dayal Singh College Road and internal roads in Lodhi Colony.

Motorists travelling through these areas have been advised to consider alternative routes to avoid delays.

Delhi Traffic Police announce eight diversion points

To regulate traffic near the concert venue, the police have identified eight diversion points, including two that will be activated depending on traffic conditions.

The six planned diversions are as follows:

  1. Lodhi Road to Dayal Singh College Road: Vehicles travelling towards Dayal Singh College Road will be redirected to the Lodhi Flyover instead of being allowed to continue straight. However, traffic between the Lodhi Flyover signal and Aurobindo Marg will operate normally.
  2. Lala Lajpat Rai Marg to JLN Stadium: Vehicles approaching the stadium from Lala Lajpat Rai Marg will be diverted towards the Lodhi Flyover.
  3. SIP Road to Soochna Bhawan: Traffic moving from SIP Road on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg towards Soochna Bhawan will also be redirected to the Lodhi Flyover.
  4. Bhishm Pitamah Marg to Stadium Gate 1: Motorists approaching the JLN Stadium traffic signal from Bhishm Pitamah Marg will not be permitted to proceed towards Gate 1 or Kotla Mubarakpur. They will instead be diverted towards Meharchand Market and Lodhi Colony.
  5. Kushak Nallah Bus Depot junction: Vehicles approaching from the bus depot signal will be restricted from travelling towards Stadium Gates 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Alternative routes will be available through 4th Avenue Road towards Lodhi Road or via INA towards Aurobindo Marg.
  6. Lodhi Colony Road to 5th Avenue Road: Vehicles heading towards Bhishm Pitamah Marg from Lodhi Colony Road will be diverted through Lodhi Road and 4th Avenue Road towards Jor Bagh Road.

Two additional diversions if traffic increases

The police have also prepared two contingency diversions that may be implemented if congestion worsens.

Vehicles travelling towards JLN Stadium from the Bhishm Pitamah Marg traffic signal near Kotla Mubarakpur may be diverted through Verma Marg to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg. Motorists will then have to take a U-turn and continue towards Ring Road.

Similarly, vehicles approaching the stadium from the junction of Bhishm Pitamah Marg and Lodhi Road may be redirected towards Arch Bishop Marg, the Lodhi Flyover and Madarsa-Aurobindo Marg.

Diljit Dosanjh Delhi concert: Nearest Metro stations and routes

The Delhi Traffic Police have recommended Metro travel as the most convenient option for concert-goers. Services on the Violet and Yellow Lines are expected to operate normally.

Violet Line: Passengers can get off at JLN Stadium or Jangpura Metro Station. Stadium Gates 13, 14 and 17 are accessible on foot from these stations.

Yellow Line: Those travelling on the Yellow Line can alight at INA Metro Station. From there, passengers heading towards Gates 3, 6 and 8 can take an auto-rickshaw or cab to the Kushak Nallah Bus Depot traffic signal.

Concert-goers have been advised to check their designated entry gates before choosing a Metro station or drop-off point.

Designated pick-up and drop-off locations near JLN Stadium

To prevent vehicles from stopping along busy roads near the venue, three locations have been identified for passenger pick-ups and drop-offs.

  • Arch Bishop Marg: Suitable for those entering through Stadium Gates 13, 14 and 17.
  • Lal Masjid-Pragati Vihar: Provides access to Gates 13, 14 and 17.
  • Kushak Nallah Bus Depot traffic signal: Designated for visitors using Gates 3, 6 and 8.

These arrangements will apply to cabs, auto-rickshaws and other vehicles dropping off or collecting concert attendees.

Recommended routes for concert-goers from different parts of Delhi

The traffic police have also suggested routes based on the direction from which visitors are travelling.

North-West, West, South-West and South Delhi: Visitors can travel through Aurobindo Marg towards Lodhi Road and use Arch Bishop Marg as their drop-off point.

South, East and South-East Delhi: Concert-goers can approach Lal Masjid-Pragati Vihar through Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.

New Delhi, Central, North and North-West Delhi: Those arriving from these areas have been advised to use Arch Bishop Marg for drop-offs before reaching Lodhi Road.

The police have urged visitors to follow the recommended routes and avoid unnecessary vehicle movement around the stadium.

Emergency vehicles to receive priority

The Delhi Traffic Police have assured that ambulances and vehicles attending medical emergencies will be given priority throughout the restrictions. Necessary arrangements will be made to keep emergency routes accessible.

Motorists have been asked not to park along roads, obstruct traffic or disregard instructions issued by police personnel deployed near the venue.

The public has also been advised to immediately inform the police if they notice suspicious objects or activities.

Diljit Dosanjh's Delhi concert gets police clearance after initial concerns

The traffic advisory comes days after Diljit Dosanjh's Delhi concert faced uncertainty over security arrangements.

Earlier reports suggested that the Delhi Police had refused permission for the event at JLN Stadium, citing potential security threats, insufficient preparation time and concerns over maintaining law and order during the festive period.

However, permission was subsequently granted following discussions between senior police officials and the event organisers. The organisers reportedly submitted detailed security arrangements addressing the concerns raised by the authorities.

With the necessary clearance in place, the singer is scheduled to take the stage in the national capital on October 30 as part of his India Aura Tour.

Following the Delhi performance, the tour is set to continue in Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Lucknow. Chandigarh is also included in the itinerary, although details of that concert are yet to be announced.
