‘Bon Jovi dead’ trends online — But who was Ioannis Vasilopoulos, the man behind the mix-up?

The internet was recently flooded with concern and confusion after the phrase “Bon Jovi dead” began trending on social media platforms across the United States and United Kingdom. But contrary to the widespread speculation, rock icon Jon Bon Jovi is alive and well.
The misunderstanding stemmed from the death of Ioannis Vasilopoulos, a celebrated Greek-American artist who designed iconic album covers for Bon Jovi and other major rock bands.
Why did people think Bon Jovi had died?
The mix-up arose after obituaries and headlines reported the passing of “Bon Jovi album designer Ioannis Vasilopoulos.” Several readers and social media users misunderstood the phrasing, mistaking the designer for a member of the band, or even Bon Jovi himself.
Viral posts began spreading false news that Bon Jovi had died, prompting a wave of shock, mourning, and frantic online searches. It is not the first time the rock legend has been subjected to a death hoax, but the confusion was amplified this time by the designer's close ties with the band.
Despite the buzz, no credible media outlet confirmed Bon Jovi’s death. In fact, several sources have reiterated that the 63-year-old singer is in good health. Bon Jovi’s representatives have not issued an official statement, but those close to the artist confirm he is alive.
