Mammootty at 75: Shanmughan returns, Dhanush film, Adoor project and more in the star’s big line-up

At 75, Malayalam superstar Mammootty continues to work on films that promise to surprise audiences. Several projects featuring the veteran actor are in the pipeline in Malayalam and other languages, as he prepares to return to the big screen with new stories and challenging characters after a brief break due to health concerns.

Karikkamuri Shanmughan returns

Mammootty’s latest theatrical release was Mahesh Narayanan’s ‘Patriot’. Earlier this year, he also made a guest appearance in ‘Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies’. His next theatrical outing will also see him in a guest role.

Ranjith’s ‘Law and Order’ is scheduled to hit theatres on September 18. Mammootty will reprise his popular character Karikkamuri Shanmughan from the 2004 film ‘Black’. Actor and advertising filmmaker Prakash Varma, who drew attention with his role in Mohanlal’s ‘Thudarum’, plays a prominent role in the film.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s ‘Padayatra’

A much-anticipated project from Mammootty Company is Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s ‘Padayatra’. The film, produced by Mammootty Kampany, has already completed shooting.

The project marks a notable collaboration between the veteran filmmaker and Mammootty, with further details about the film awaited.

Big-budget entertainer ‘Mela’

Mammootty’s birthday also saw the announcement of the title of a big-budget action entertainer directed by Nitheesh Sahadev. Titled ‘Mela’, the film is being planned as a gangster action entertainer.

The movie is the ninth production venture of Mammootty Kampany. Nitheesh Sahadev has previously gained attention through the Malayalam film ‘Falimy’ and the Tamil film ‘Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil’.

‘Mattancherry Mafia’ with Asif Ali and Naslen

Mammootty had earlier announced a film with director Khalid Rahman, following their collaboration on ‘Unda’. Titled ‘Mattancherry Mafia’, the film also features Asif Ali and Naslen in key roles.

The movie is expected to be a mass action-comedy entertainer, adding another high-profile project to Mammootty’s upcoming lineup.

Mammootty joins Dhanush in Tamil film ‘OM’

Among the projects generating considerable excitement among fans is ‘OM’, in which Mammootty will share the screen with Tamil star Dhanush.

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who gained recognition with ‘Amaran’, the film is reportedly being planned as a mass action drama and is expected to release in October.

Mammootty’s last Tamil film was Ram’s ‘Peranbu’, released in 2018.

More projects in the pipeline

Mammootty had also earlier announced a project with Cubes Entertainments, the production house that gained attention with ‘Marco’. Details about the film have not yet been revealed.

Fans are also waiting for updates on several other highly anticipated projects, including the second part of ‘Big B’ and ‘Kannur Squad 2’.

With multiple projects across Malayalam and Tamil cinema, Mammootty’s upcoming slate promises a diverse mix of action, drama, gangster films and character-driven roles.
