Directed by Girish AD, the Malayalam romantic comedy hit screens on August 21 as part of the Onam release line-up. The film marks the first on-screen pairing of Nivin and Mamitha, while Girish returns after ‘Premalu’.

Judging by the early social media reactions, the film seems to be finding its audience with its light-hearted treatment, performances and overall mood. At the same time, some viewers have raised concerns about the screenplay and dialogues.

‘Simple. Refreshing.’

One viewer was particularly pleased with the first half, praising both Nivin’s familiar comic style and Mamitha’s performance.

“#Bethlehemkudumbaunit SUPERB First Half With Girish AD Flavours

#NivinPauly In His Safe Zone & Delivered His Usual Item's, Specially Some Spontaneous Things & Mannerisms

Mamitha Also Were So Good in her Space.”

Another audience member kept things brief but summed up their experience in three words: “Simple. Refreshing. #BKU#BethlehemKudumbaUnit”

The film has also been getting attention for arriving during the Onam holiday period, with one viewer calling it an “Onam blast”.

“The #BethlehemKudumbaUnit team is bringing the perfect Onam blast !”

Another review highlighted the central romance and the contrast between its two leads, describing the film as grounded and easy to watch.

“#BethlehemKudumbaUnit First Half Review A Gen Z Gal falling for a Millennial A Very Grounded Realistic comedy drama Light hearted treatment by Girish AD really works Nivin in his zone. Mamita is too good. Nice combo Very Engaging and Entertaining Heartwarming !!! #BKU.”

The film centres on Ashley, played by Mamitha Baiju, who returns home after spending time abroad. Her homecoming takes place against the backdrop of a wedding happening next door, bringing old memories back into her life.

Those memories are closely tied to Justin, played by Nivin Pauly, and their past relationship forms the emotional thread running through the story. The film deals with first love, memories and the possibility of getting a second chance.

The film runs for around 2 hours and 37 minutes and combines romance, comedy and family drama.

Girish A D and Kiran Josey have written the screenplay and dialogues, while Ajmal Sabu is the cinematographer and Akash Joseph Varghese handles editing. Vishnu Vijay has composed the music.

A major point of curiosity around the film has been the pairing of Nivin and Mamitha, who are sharing the screen for the first time. The early reactions suggest that their chemistry is one of the elements viewers are enjoying.

The film also comes from Bhavana Studios, with Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran among the producers.
