Vijay's much-awaited farewell film, 'Jana Nayagan', has lived up to the massive pre-release hype, posting an impressive opening at the worldwide box office. Directed by H Vinoth, the action drama grossed an estimated Rs 78.27 crore worldwide on its first day in theatres, making it one of the biggest Tamil openers of the year.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 48.27 crore gross in India on Thursday, while overseas markets contributed Rs 30 crore, taking its worldwide Day 1 haul to Rs 78.27 crore.

Apart from its strong box office performance, 'Jana Nayagan' also witnessed exceptional demand on BookMyShow. The film sold 4,54,510 tickets between 6 AM and 10 PM on its opening day, comfortably surpassing the 2.38 lakh tickets sold by 'Karuppu'.

However, it remained behind the single-day records of 'Jailer' (10 lakh), 'Leo' (7.56 lakh) and 'Coolie' (7.15 lakh).

The booking trend reflected sustained audience interest throughout the day. The film crossed 1 lakh tickets by the morning, 2 lakh by 2 PM, 3 lakh by 6 PM, before witnessing a sharp spike during the evening.

The busiest booking window came between 9 PM and 10 PM, when nearly 38,190 tickets were sold.

The Hindi version, 'Jan Neta', also added over 40,000 tickets during the late-night booking rush, highlighting the film's growing appeal beyond Tamil-speaking audiences.

Adding to its momentum, 'Jana Nayagan' has been trending simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on BookMyShow.

The Tamil version has secured a 9.2/10 rating from over 17,900 users, while the Telugu version, 'Jana Nayakudu', holds a strong 8.6/10, reflecting positive audience reception across markets.

Featuring Vijay alongside Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Narain, the film has opened to favourable reviews from both critics and audiences.

With robust advance bookings, positive word of mouth and the weekend ahead, trade analysts expect 'Jana Nayagan' to maintain its momentum over the next few days.
