I’ve been here all along, only took a break from acting: Meera Jasmine

Meera Jasmine captured the hearts of the Malayali audience with her acting prowess and relatable characters. She became an audience favourite at a very young age. But she disappeared from the limelight as quickly as she captured it. For a very long time, fans have been wondering where Meera went. 

The actress who made a comeback with Sathyan Anthikad’s ‘Makal’ is all set for her next release. She is also playing the titular role in Padmakumar’s ‘Queen Elizabeth’. Narain is the male lead of this film.

Meera speaks about her new film Queen Elizabeth

‘Director Padmakumar and the producers Sreeram and Ranjith decided to approach me for this film. However, they had no means to contact me. So they narrated the script to my sister Jenny who liked the story and then called me. She suggested that I listen to the script but I still wasn’t sure. Since I was in the U.S at the time, I heard the script via a Zoom call. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it and decided to agree to the role. Queen Elizabeth is an entertaining film and the presentation is quite unique.

Elizabeth is the bossy protagonist who never gets close to anyone. She may seem a little arrogant but is a harmless person. The film shows her life and the events around it. Elizabeth thoroughly enjoyed doing this role and hopes that the audience will also enjoy watching it.

Narain is back with you once again as a co-actor in this film. What has changed in this long interval?

Narain is one of my close friends from the film industry. I’m glad to be able to work with him once again. We met abroad seven months before the film shooting began. We were meeting after many years even though we used to speak on the phone sometimes. That time we did not know about this project. The film has helped in making our friendship stronger.

How do you choose films?

I have a team that listens to the script. The story is discussed with them and then a decision is made. The film is assessed as a whole. What is the character? Who is the director? Many factors are taken into account including the co-actors. Only then do I agree for a film.

What did you do when you took a break from films? Did you miss cinema?

I was here all along. I used to watch movies. I only took a break from acting but all other interests in my life continued as usual. I travelled a lot. I like to enjoy the moment. When I’m doing a film I think only about it. And when travelling, I think only about that. So I don’t feel like I missed anything much.

Can we hope to see you around after this comeback?

I hope to continue here if good stories and films come my way. One film each will be released in Tamil and Telugu as well. One more Malayalam project will be announced soon.
