The adventure is far from over, but the countdown to the final game has begun. Dwayne Johnson has given fans a fresh glimpse of ‘Jumanji: Open World’, the upcoming instalment in the popular action-adventure franchise, with the release of a new poster ahead of its Christmas debut.

The film, which brings back Johnson alongside Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 25, 2026. Directed by Jake Kasdan, the movie is being billed as the concluding chapter of the current ‘Jumanji’ trilogy. Sony Pictures Entertainment India will release it in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Dwayne Johnson unveils new ‘Jumanji: Open World’ poster

Johnson shared the latest poster on Instagram, offering fans a look at the returning cast as the boundaries between the game's universe and the real world begin to blur. The artwork features the principal characters' faces arranged vertically, hinting at the collision between the two worlds at the centre of the new adventure.

The actor accompanied the poster with a caption that teases the stakes of the upcoming film. He wrote, "Two worlds collide. One final game. #Jumanji: Open World - the last game is coming exclusively to movie theatres CHRISTMAS DAY."

The new artwork follows the release of the film's first trailer over the summer. The footage showed the four central characters navigating the real world while retaining the awkward, exaggerated movements of their video game avatars.

What is ‘Jumanji: Open World’ about?

This time, the danger is no longer confined to a video game. According to the film's synopsis, the familiar heroes find themselves facing an unprecedented crisis when Jumanji escapes from its console and unleashes chaos in the real world.

The premise marks a change from the previous films, which largely revolved around characters entering the game's dangerous environment. With the game breaking into reality, the group must confront a threat that extends beyond the virtual world they have previously struggled to survive.

Alongside Johnson, Black, Hart and Gillan, the cast includes Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Rhys Darby and Danny DeVito.

Jake Kasdan returns to direct the final instalment

Kasdan, who helmed ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ (2017) and ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ (2019), returns to direct the latest film. He has co-written the screenplay with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

The production team includes Kasdan, Johnson, Matt Tolmach, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia as producers.

The new film follows the 2017 reboot, which introduced a group of teenagers who become trapped inside a video game and transform into adult avatars. That film went on to earn more than $950 million worldwide. Its 2019 follow-up, ‘The Next Level’, also performed strongly at the global box office, collecting more than $801 million.

The franchise itself traces its origins to the 1995 film starring Robin Williams, which adapted Chris Van Allsburg's 1981 children's book.

Jack Black calls the new film his favourite

The returning cast offered an early glimpse of the upcoming adventure at CinemaCon earlier this year, when Johnson, Hart and Black presented footage from the film and announced its title.

Black expressed his enthusiasm for the project during the presentation, telling the audience, “I’ve never had more fun working on a movie. This is my favorite so far.”

With the new poster now out, ‘Jumanji: Open World’ is gearing up for its worldwide theatrical launch on Christmas Day. Indian audiences can watch the final adventure in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu from December 25, 2026.
