Planning a ‘Hunger Games’ marathon? Where to watch all five films before the new prequel

With ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ set to arrive in theatres on November 20, fans have an opportunity to revisit the dystopian world of Panem before the next chapter unfolds. The upcoming film, based on Suzanne Collins' novel of the same name, takes audiences back to the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, and follows a young Haymitch Abernathy's fight for survival.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, the prequel is the sixth film in the franchise and follows the 2023 release ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’. Joseph Zada plays the younger version of Haymitch, with McKenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Kieran Culkin, Maya Hawke and Glenn Close among the cast members. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson are also set to make appearances in a flash-forward.
For those planning a franchise marathon before the new release, all five previously released films are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video in India. Here is a look at the films in their release order and where to watch them.
Where to watch ‘The Hunger Games’ movies
1. The Hunger Games (2012)
The film that introduced audiences to Panem follows Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who volunteers to participate in the annual Hunger Games in place of her younger sister, Prim. Alongside fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), she enters a televised competition in which young contestants must fight one another to survive.
Directed by Gary Ross, the first instalment also features Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+
2. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Winning the Hunger Games does little to bring Katniss and Peeta a peaceful life. Their victory becomes a symbol of resistance across Panem, drawing the attention of the Capitol and putting them in greater danger. In the second film, the pair are forced back into the arena for the 75th Hunger Games, known as the Third Quarter Quell.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+
3. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014)
The conflict between the Capitol and the districts moves beyond the arena in the third instalment. Katniss gradually becomes the face of the growing rebellion and joins forces with District 13's leadership, including Alma Coin (Julianne Moore), as the resistance prepares to challenge President Snow's authority.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+
4. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015)
The final chapter of Katniss' original story follows the rebels as they take their fight directly to the Capitol. With President Snow's dictatorship standing in their way, Katniss and her allies embark on a dangerous mission to bring his rule to an end and secure freedom for Panem.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+
5. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
Set decades before Katniss Everdeen's story, this prequel explores the early years of Coriolanus Snow, who later becomes the president of Panem. As a young man, Snow is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, a tribute from District 12, during the 10th Hunger Games. Their relationship and experiences offer a glimpse into the events that shape the future of the Capitol.
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+. The film is also available to rent for Rs 119.
