‘Ramayana’ box office collection Day 3: Film witnesses 45% jump, worldwide total nears Rs 376 crore

Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana: Part 1', starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, witnessed a significant jump in box office collections on its first Saturday, earning more than it did on its opening day. The mythological epic collected Rs 69.80 crore net in India on Day 3, taking its domestic net total to Rs 182.70 crore.
The film's India gross collection has reached Rs 218.25 crore, while its worldwide gross earnings stand at Rs 375.50 crore. The Saturday surge followed a relatively subdued performance on Friday, when the film collected Rs 48.05 crore. With its strong third-day numbers, the film has maintained its momentum during the Diwali weekend.
According to Sacnilk, 'Ramayana' recorded collections across 23,696 shows in India on Saturday. Its overseas markets also contributed significantly, with the film adding Rs 60 crore in gross earnings on Day 3 alone.
‘Ramayana’ Day 3 box office collection: Hindi version leads the way
The Hindi version remained the biggest contributor to the film's domestic earnings. It collected Rs 53 crore from 19,927 shows on Saturday, accounting for the majority of its India net collection.
Among the regional versions, Kannada brought in Rs 6.30 crore from 907 shows, while the Telugu version earned Rs 6 crore through 1,586 screenings. Tamil contributed Rs 2.50 crore from 683 shows, and Malayalam added Rs 2 crore across 593 shows.
The film's occupancy figures also reflected a strong response in several regional markets. Malayalam recorded the highest overall occupancy at 83%, followed by Kannada at 66.5%, Telugu at 58% and Tamil at 78.5%. The Hindi version registered an overall occupancy of 36.3%.
A closer look at the Hindi screenings shows that the 3D version recorded an overall occupancy of 46.10%. Its afternoon shows performed better than the morning screenings, with occupancy rising from 31.85% to 52.31%. Evening and night shows registered 48.46% and 51.77%, respectively.
The Hindi 2D version recorded an overall occupancy of 38.73%, with morning, afternoon, evening and night shows registering 27.15%, 43.77%, 38% and 46%, respectively.
Kannada 3D screenings also reported encouraging numbers, recording an overall occupancy of 80.19%. While morning shows registered 56.82%, the figure climbed to 77.36% in the afternoon and 87.36% in the evening. Night shows recorded an impressive 91.45%.
‘Ramayana’ worldwide box office collection crosses Rs 375 crore
While the domestic performance has been encouraging, overseas markets have played a major role in pushing the film's worldwide earnings higher.
On Day 3, 'Ramayana' collected Rs 60 crore in overseas gross revenue, taking its total international earnings to Rs 157.25 crore. Combined with its domestic gross of Rs 218.25 crore, the film's worldwide collection reached Rs 375.50 crore within its first three days.
The film began its theatrical run with an India net collection of Rs 64.85 crore. Its earnings declined to Rs 48.05 crore on Friday before recovering to Rs 69.80 crore on Saturday. The three-day domestic net total now stands at Rs 182.70 crore.
‘Ramayana’ vs ‘Adipurush’: How does the film compare?
Despite the strong Saturday performance, 'Ramayana' has not surpassed the opening-day collection of Prabhas-starrer 'Adipurush'.
Released in 2023, the mythological drama opened with Rs 86.75 crore net in India. However, 'Ramayana' has edged past its third-day collection. 'Adipurush' earned Rs 69.10 crore on its third day, slightly below the Rs 69.80 crore collected by Tiwari's film.
The comparison comes despite 'Adipurush' facing considerable criticism over its visual effects and dialogue following its release.
‘Ramayana’ vs ‘Animal’: Ranbir Kapoor's previous blockbuster maintains domestic lead
Interestingly, 'Ramayana' is yet to surpass the domestic box office performance of Ranbir Kapoor's previous blockbuster 'Animal' at the same stage of its theatrical run.
Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, 'Animal' collected Rs 71.46 crore net in India on its third day, outperforming 'Ramayana's Rs 69.80 crore. The film achieved this figure across 17,932 shows, compared with the 23,696 screenings recorded by 'Ramayana'.
The Hindi version of 'Animal' contributed Rs 63.46 crore from 15,091 shows. Telugu added Rs 7.30 crore from 2,181 screenings, while Tamil brought in Rs 55 lakh across 525 shows. Kannada contributed Rs 14 lakh from 112 shows, and Malayalam added Rs 1 lakh through 23 screenings.
By the end of its third day, 'Animal' had accumulated Rs 201.53 crore in India net collections and Rs 240.55 crore in domestic gross earnings. Its overseas gross stood at Rs 115.50 crore, including Rs 34.70 crore earned on Saturday. The worldwide gross collection reached Rs 356.05 crore.
Although 'Animal' maintained a lead in domestic net earnings, 'Ramayana' moved ahead in worldwide gross collections at the corresponding stage, largely owing to its stronger overseas performance.
Another notable difference was the average collection per screening. 'Animal' earned approximately Rs 39,851 per show on Day 3, while 'Ramayana' averaged Rs 29,517. However, Tiwari's film has a wider multilingual release, reaching audiences across five languages.
