Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit has opened up about facing criticism during the early years of her career, drawing a comparison between the comments she encountered in the 1990s and the trolling that celebrities experience on social media today. The actor recalled how magazines would occasionally publish remarks about film stars during that period but said the scale and frequency of online criticism today are very different.

Madhuri shared her thoughts during an episode of the quiz reality show 'Kon Honar Crorepati'. Contestants Shiv Thakare and Gautami Patil joined her on the show, where a conversation about fame and dealing with public scrutiny prompted the actor to revisit her experiences in the film industry.

Madhuri Dixit on dealing with trolls and criticism

During the interaction, Shiv asked Madhuri how she had managed to remain grounded despite being a prominent name in the entertainment industry for several years. He also spoke about how some people struggle to handle even a small amount of attention and popularity.

Responding to his question, Madhuri said her passion for acting had always helped her concentrate on her work rather than getting distracted by negative opinions.

Recalling the kind of criticism she encountered during her early career, she said, “I love my work very much, and I really enjoy what I do. Because of that, I never paid attention to trolls. Back then, there were some magazines that would comment about you or something like that. But it wasn’t like today, where there is so much trolling and people keep saying the same thing again and again. We should love whatever we are doing, and our intentions should be good. That’s it. Then nothing else matters that much.”

The actor highlighted how the nature of public criticism has evolved over the years, with social media making negative comments more frequent and repetitive. She also emphasised the importance of enjoying one's profession and having the right intentions instead of allowing outside opinions to affect one's work.
