Transport Minister keeps promise; second double-decker bus arrives for Munnar sightseeing

Munnar: KSRTC has gifted Munnar with a New Year gift. The second KSRTC double-decker bus service for tourists will begin operations on Friday.
The service will be inaugurated by KSRTC Managing Director PS Pramoj Shankar. The bus, built at KSRTC’s Central Works in Pappanamcode, Thiruvananthapuram, has reached the Munnar depot. It is similar to the double-decker bus currently in service.
Three trips will be operated daily—at 8.00 a.m., 11.30 a.m., and 3.00 p.m. The service, starting from the Munnar depot, will travel along the Kochi–Dhanushkodi National Highway, covering Devikulam, Gap Road, and Anayirangal, before returning to the depot.
Both buses will operate on the same route. Seating is arranged for 11 passengers on the lower deck and 39 on the upper deck. The buses are specially designed for Munnar, offering unobstructed views of the surroundings. Tickets can be booked online.
The first KSRTC double-decker bus service for tourists in Munnar was launched on February 8, 2025. The project, inaugurated by Minister KB Ganesh Kumar, turned out to be a major success, earning KSRTC over ₹1 crore in revenue within nine months. The existing service operates at 9.00 am, 12.30 p.m., and 4.00 p.m. daily.
