1 lakh foreign tourists to get visa fee exemption: Tourism Minister Shekhawat

In a major development, India has announced a visa exemption for 100,000 foreign tourists as part of the Chalo India program under the Union Ministry of Tourism.

Speaking at an event organized by his ministry to celebrate World Tourism Day, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Tourism, announced that 100,000 foreign tourists will soon be exempt from paying visa fees.

Shekhawat stated that this decision aims to showcase the country's tourism potential to the world.

Additionally, the government plans to compile a list of top tourism destinations, which will be promoted globally in collaboration with various departments, including Aviation, Railways, as well the respective state governments. These destinations will be upgraded to world-class standards and become synonymous with Indian tourism, he added.

Development in the tourism sector will involve public-private partnerships, ensuring local community participation. Training will also be provided for those working in the tourism industry.

This visa relaxation is expected to boost tourist arrivals in India. Previously, the government had introduced a visa-on-arrival option for travellers from Japan, South Korea, and the UAE, valid for up to 60 days.
