Want a wedding like Suriya and Jyothika’s? Here’s how much the Scottish castle could cost you

Indian weddings can burn through Rs 25 lakh before you've even finalised the guest list. But in a Scottish castle, that kind of money can get you the whole place for a night.
Suriya and Jyotika chose Blairquhan for their 20th anniversary, so naturally, we wanted to know what that kind of celebration actually cost.
The castle in Scotland looks expensive, and it is but the actual wedding package is a little more complicated, and perhaps more surprising, than you'd expect.
What you are renting
The castle sits on a 200-acre private estate near Maybole. The present building was designed by William Burn and finished in 1824, on the site of a tower house dating back to 1346. It has also had a screen career, since it stood in for Balmoral in the Oscar-winning film 'The Queen'.

VisitScotland rates it as a five-star exclusive-use venue with four function rooms that seat up to 100. Exclusive use means nobody else is on the property. Your time runs from 8 am on the wedding day until 10 am the next morning.
The two main packages
The standard package is built for 60 or 80 guests. The estate splits it into a flat castle fee of £12,350 plus catering at £150 a head, which comes to £21,350 (Rs 27,45,025) for 60 guests and £24,350 (Rs 31,30,743) for 80, VAT included.
The intimate package suits smaller parties. It has a £16,060 castle fee, plus £4,500 of catering for 30 guests or £7,500 for 50, for totals of £20,560 (Rs 26,43,453) and £23,560 (Rs 30,29,170).
| Package | Guests | 2026 total | In rupees (approx.) |
| Standard | 60 | £21,350 | Rs 27.4 lakh |
| Standard | 80 | £24,350 | Rs 31.2 lakh |
| Intimate | 30 | £20,560 | Rs 26.4 lakh |
| Intimate | 50 | £23,560 | Rs 30.2 lakh |
The price covers more than the venue. Both packages come with a photographer, flowers, a cake, a DJ, an in-house coordinator and a master of ceremonies.
The dinner side includes sparkling wine and canapés at the reception, a three-course meal and half a bottle of house wine per person. Photographer, cake and DJ are things couples usually hunt down separately, so having them folded in takes a few calls off your list.
The line that moves your total: bedrooms
The standard package's castle fee does not include any bedrooms. You have to book at least eight, starting from £265 (Rs 34,071) a night with breakfast, and the honeymoon suite is complimentary only once those eight are booked. Eight rooms at £265 add £2,120 (Rs 2,72,574), so the 60-guest package realistically starts near £23,470, or about Rs 30.1 lakh.

The intimate package works differently, because all 15 castle bedrooms are already part of the price for the wedding night. That makes for a funny coincidence. The 50-guest intimate package (Rs 30.2 lakh) costs almost the same as the 60-guest standard package with eight rooms (Rs 27.4 lakh). For roughly the same money, you pick between 10 extra guests and a castle you fill completely.
The castle itself sleeps up to 30 people, so a larger party spills into the estate cottages. There are eight of them, and they can house a further 49 guests. They range from two to four bedrooms, with linen, towels and Wi-Fi included. Starting rates are about £534 a night (roughly Rs 68,000).
Here is a back-of-envelope total. Take the 60-guest package (£21,350), add all 15 castle rooms at £265 (£3,975), then four cottages at the starting rate (£2,136). That lands near £27,500, or around Rs 35 lakh. Cottage prices vary, so treat that as a floor rather than a quote.
Let the calendar do some work
Timing is the easiest way to save money. For standard weddings, a Monday to Thursday date drops the castle fee to £11,350 (Rs 14,59,299), which is £1,000 (Rs 1,28,572) off. The estate has also advertised 10 percent off the exclusive-use fee for weddings in January to March and November to December 2027, excluding Christmas and New Year. On a fee this size that is well over a thousand pounds. Offers like this change, so ask before you budget around one.
Prices for 2027
Booking partner Celtic Castles lists £22,210 for the 60-guest package in 2027 (about Rs 28.5 lakh) and £21,450 for the 30-guest intimate package (about Rs 27.5 lakh). That is roughly £860 to £890 above the 2026 rates.
The estate itself notes that prices can change at any time without notice, so treat every figure here as indicative.
If you only want the castle, not the wedding
A vow renewal doesn't need a full wedding production. The estate lists whole-castle stays at from £9,000 a night for all 15 bedrooms, with breakfast, and a dinner-only catering package at £95 a head. For a family gathering of 30, that works out to about £11,850, or Rs 15.2 lakh, before extras like a photographer.
What the invoice won't show
Flights, UK visas for guests, outfits, hair and makeup, extra decor and transfers all sit outside these figures. Budget for them separately.

So plan on somewhere between Rs 27 lakh and Rs 35 lakh for the castle, the beds and the party, before any of the above. Suriya and Jyotika's own bill stays their business, but the rest of us now have real numbers to work from.
