The nativity certificate has regained attention following a Kerala Government cabinet meeting, which gave in-principle approval to replace the current certificate with a permanent, photo-embedded Nativity Card.

What is a Nativity certificate

A nativity certificate is an official document issued by the Indian government that certifies an individual's place of origin within the country. This certificate serves as proof that the applicant, or their ancestors, such as parents or grandparents, resided in a particular state or region. It is commonly required for various purposes, including educational admissions, government job reservations, and applications for Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI).

Obtain the Application Form:

You can acquire the nativity certificate application form from your local revenue office, such as the Tahsildar's office, or download it from your state's official e-governance portal, edistrict.kerala.gov.in

Complete the Application:

Fill out the form with personal details, including your full name, date of birth, current address, and ancestral information.

Gather supporting documents:

Attach necessary documents to substantiate your claim, which may include:

1. Affidavit

2. Birth Certificate

3. Ration Card

4. School Certificate

5. School Certificate of parents

Submit the application:

Submit the completed form along with the supporting documents to the designated authority, such as the village office or district magistrate, in your area. Or you can do an online submission through their e-governance portals.

Verification process:

The authorities will review your application and may conduct a field verification to confirm the details provided.

Issuance of Certificate:

After successful verification, the nativity certificate will be issued. Processing times can be up to 5 working days.
