Edappal (Malappuram): In a great relief for many, the Ambedkar Foundation is providing medical assistance of up to Rs 3.5 lakh for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. This financial aid will be sent directly to hospitals.

The initiative is part of a medical aid scheme by the Ambedkar Foundation, which operates under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The scheme was proposed by the centenary celebration committee to promote Ambedkar's philosophy and principles.

Although the Dr Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme began last January, it has only recently been expanded. Applications for the assistance must be posted on a prescribed form or on plain paper. The maximum amount specified for each ailment will be transferred directly to the hospital where the surgery is performed. To finalise the process, hospitals need to submit the final bill along with a utilisation certificate to the Ambedkar Foundation. Also, a lump-sum amount will be provided before the surgery.
