‘Cooked by Gucci, served by Alia’: Bhatt shuts down Cannes with iconic saree moment | WATCH

Cannes: On the final day of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Alia Bhatt turned heads and stole the spotlight in a first-ever saree created by Italian luxury house Gucci.
The global brand ambassador for Gucci, Alia Bhatt, graced the red carpet in a dazzling outfit that paid homage to Indian tradition while blending seamlessly with high fashion aesthetics. Designed with intricate Swarovski crystal embellishments and stitched in Gucci's iconic monogram fabric, the ensemble showcased a modern interpretation of the saree, though some fashion watchers debated whether it leaned more toward a lehenga-style.
The no-pleat drape was paired with a plunging neckline blouse, looking sleek and contemporary. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Alia completed the look with a delicate neckpiece, soft waves in a centre-parted hairstyle, and minimal makeup.
While Alia’s first appearance at this year’s festival in an off-shoulder Schiaparelli gown received mixed reviews, her Gucci saree has ignited widespread acclaim and conversation. The fashion moment quickly went viral, with fans flooding social media platforms like Reddit and Instagram. One user quipped, “Cooked by Gucci, served by Alia,” while another recalled Alia’s earlier wish to wear a Gucci saree, celebrating the dream finally realised.
Yet, the look did spark a debate online. Some users argued that the ensemble bore more resemblance to a lehenga than a saree. “That’s not a saree,” one user claimed, while others defended the modern reinterpretation, calling it a bold cross-cultural fashion statement.
Regardless of classification, the outfit marked a moment, an Indian actress closing one of the most prestigious film festivals in a global designer’s tribute to Indian attire.
