Xmas-New Year footfall at 2.93 lakh: Wayanad emerges as the favourite hub of tourists

Kalpetta: The recent Christmas-New Year festive season rush has proved that Wayand is becoming one of favourite holiday destinations for travellers. Various tourists, including from north India were seen flocking to witness Wayanad at its best.
Tourist footfall in Wayanad doubled during the Christmas and New Year period when compared to the previous year. Between December 20 and January 2, 2.93 lakh people visited Wayanad. This increase in footfall is proof of the region gaining a prominent spot among the tourist locations of the country.
In 2023, when the Vishu-Easter holidays coincided, 1.5 lakh people visited the district within 10 days. Around 1.5 lakh people came to Wayanad during Onam as well. There was also a huge increase in the number of tourists during the Puja holiday season. 1.25 lakh people visited the district in just four days.
As per records, 1.28 lakh tourists visited the centres under DTPC this festive season. 77,826 people visited the Banasura Sagar dam between December 24 to January 2. While 66,832 tourists came to Karapuzha Dam during this period.
The majority of the tourists were from the other districts in Kerala as well as from states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and other foreign countries.
