Covishield makers accept vaccine causes blood clots and other side effects

London: AstraZeneca, the maker of the Covid-19 vaccine, has admitted that people who have received the vaccine, Covishield, are at risk of developing blood clots and low platelet counts. This is the first time that the company has admitted that Covishield has side effects.

This vaccine is globally used under several brand names such as Covishield and Vaxzevria. It was developed by AstraZeneca in collaboration with Oxford university.

There have been complaints of serious side effects and even death among those who received the vaccine. Many families also went to court against AstraZeneca. The case was initiated by Jamie Scott in April 2021, claiming that he suffered permanent brain impairment after receiving the vaccine. He suffered from Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), a condition which leads to blood clots and low platelets. AstraZeneca has admitted in documents filed at Britain’s High Court that Covishield can also cause TTS in rare cases.

Britain had stopped using the AstraZeneca- Oxford vaccine due to safety concerns.
