60% of users prefer non-veg food, Kollam tops the list: Here's how Kerala ordered on Swiggy in 2023

As Kerala is bidding farewell to 2023, let's take a flavorful journey through the state's eating choices, as revealed by online food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy's year-end data. 

The battle between vegetarian and non-vegetarian preferences showcased a close contest, with veg orders contributing 40% and non-veg dominating at 60%. Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Thiruvananthapuram emerged as the districts with the most veg orders. While Kollam, Kozhikode, and Thiruvananthapuram topped the list for non-veg orders.

Coming to the total count of food orders, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur led the charge as the top districts with the most orders. 

Amidst the flavorful chaos, Chicken Biryani emerged as the undisputed champion and secured its throne as Kerala's most sought-after dish, closely followed by Chicken Fried Rice and the vegetarian delight, Paneer Butter Masala.

Kerala-based Swiggy users exhibited a remarkable surge in orders during 2023, with the top three days being November 19 during the Cricket World Cup Final, December 17, and December 10. Swiggy attributes the heightened enthusiasm for food orders on the Cricket World Cup Final day to the fervor surrounding the event.

Interestingly, a user from Thiruvananthapuram secured the title for the most orders with an impressive count of 1,631 in the year 2023, almost averaging four orders a day. Meanwhile, Kochi stood out as a city where culinary delights knew no budget constraints, with a user splurging a whopping Rs 19,845 on a single order.

It may be noted that Swiggy has concentrated its operations in 18 city circles across the state. Swiggy's National Business Head-VP Sidharth Bhakoo noted that Kerala's data reveals the state's diverse palate. "Swiggy is proud to be the go-to platform for food lovers across Kerala.
