Thiruvananthapuram: The Padmarajan Awards instituted by Padmarajan Memorial Trust in memory of the writer-director were announced. The award for the year 2020 were announced.

The award for best director was won by Jeo Baby, the director of 'The Great Indian Kitchen'. Film maker Jayaraj bagged the award for screen writer for the movie 'Hasyam'.

The award for novel was given to 'Murinavu' penned by Manoj Kuroor. K Rekha bagged the award for short story for her story 'Angamaliyile Mangakariyum Ninte Appavum Veenjum'.

A cash prize of Rs 25,000 is given to the best director, Rs 15,000 to the best screen writer, Rs 20,000 for the best novelist and Rs 15,000 for the short story writer.

The winners were selected by the jury including K C Narayanan as chairman and Saradakutty and Pradeep Panangad as members.

The awards were supposed to be handed over to the winners on the birth anniversary of Padmarajan which falls May 23. However, the event will be held later considering the Covid situation.
